When the unit is plugged into the Ir port the Ir signal over rides to only the receiver eye at the end of the cable. Remote control must be pointed toward the round ir receiver in order to change channels etc. unit will perform all functions of the remote control. dark lens makes this unit plasma proof!!!...I am using it placed on my Hitachi 52in plasma screen.

For the purpose of full disclosure - I did not buy this item on Amazon. It was provided to me at no charge by Verizon when I complained that my DVR box became unresponsive to the remote control commands, which coincided with my purchase of a 55" LCD TV. I've never heard of this problem before and had no idea that TV can interfere with the remote control operation. Verizon rep immediately figured out what the problem is and sent me this exact item for free the next day. Product works great! Incidentally was replacing the Comcast DVR the same day. Does not work with the "Silver" motorola DVR but was plug and play with the "Black" dual Motorola. The reception of the IR is AMAZING. Great product for the money.
