User Reviews about DirecTV HD DVR DWO2-10020 Satellite TV Receiver
This HD-DVR is the old model HR10-250. If you buy this you will not get all the new hd chns you'll only get about 7 of the 130 available and eventually these will be phased out as well. -- BEWARE
This was a very good product when the technology was around but recent mpeg 4 technology has since replaced this receiver. Directv has since started upgrading the number of hd channels they provide so it is best not to get this receiver and instead it is recommended to go with a Directv plus hd-dvr receiver from Directv, such as the hr20 or newer model of receiver (The hr10 with tivo that is being advertised here is only mpeg 2 compatible) While there are currently no mpeg 4 compatible Directv hd-dvr's with Tivo software, Directv is currently working with Tivo to produce a future generation box that will be compatible. It is expected for relase sometime in 2009. My advice is to not get this receiver and instead get the Directv plus hd-dvr receiver from Directv (see Directv.com)or wait until an mpeg 4 compatible hd-dvr with tivo software is released in 2009 through Directv. Visit there website for more information. -- good but not new technology, it is not mpeg4 compatible
I bought this unit in Dec 05, and it is still working well a year later. I've only had one instance where it locked up and needed to be reset (with no loss of recorded shows).
The other reviewers have gone over the features, so I won't repeat those here, other than to say that it works as advertised.
The main feature lacking is DVD recording capability, however none of the other HD units that I examined had that ability either. Also, there's no high-speed dubbing option, so recording to an external VCR or DVD must be done at 1X speed.
I'm planning to keep this unit, until they make a DirecTV unit that has HD and DVD recording capability. -- Still working well after one year
